P.Ramlee's Birthplace

 

INTRODUCTION

P. Ramle's house is located at Lot 2180, Jalan P Ramlee, Penang. P. Ramlee was born in this house, which built in 1926 by his father and uncle Rejab bin Hussein. This house was twice renovation by the latter, once during the Japenese Occupation and again in 1948. The National Archives accquired the house and carried out restoration works in 1991. The original form of the house is still intact. the Japanese Occupation and again in 1948.


P. RAMLEE THE RHYTHMS OF HIS YOUHTH

P. Ramlee (Whose actual name was Teuku Nyak Zakaria Bin Teuku Nyak Puteh) was born in this house on 22 March 1929. His father, a sailor from Lho' Seumawe, Acheh, who came to Pulau Pinang, married Che Mah Bt. Hussein of Kubang Buaya, Butterworth in 1925.

In 1948, a lean pimpled teenagee of nineteen made a date with destiny, a romance with the film would that met with his fulfillment in the next three decades of his life. It all began when he accepted an offer tto sing and act for Shaw Brothers Malay Film Productions of Singapore. P. Ramlee took his first step and henceforth become a super star.

1. P.RAMLEE'S HOUSE

A. INDOOR DISPLAY

The indoor display highlights various aspects of P.Ramlee's life from the time of his youth. The display are grouped as follow:



i. Introduction
This section re-traces P.Ramlee life from childhood up to the time he left for Singapore.

ii. Centre Space
The centre space is devoted to a display of various musical instruments as well as photographs relating to his involvement in the world of arts and sports.






iii. Bedroom
The bedroom has an iron bed, table and mirror, items of daily use in the life of P.Ramlee. There is also an iron trunk for keeping family clothing.

iv. Kitchen
Kitchen set-up and types of utensils in daily use.



B. OUTDOOR DISPLAY

There is bicycle on display of the type that use to be P.Ramlee favourite. Visitor are able to still view tree in the surroundings that were intimately linked with P.Ramlee childhood days.

2. P. RAMLEE'S GALLERY

Within the same compound is the modern and traditional "Kompleks Pustaka Warisan Seni" which also house the P.Ramlee Gallery, a display showcasing personal artifacts, pres photos and movie handbills.
